Scheduling
ISET IS THE ONLY OFFICIAL TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE. Please note that the schedule for your division may have changed in the last couple of days. It is reccomended that you check Iset in order to verify your game times. On Saturday May 18 and Sunday May 19, there will be two Block Starting Times: In the AM WAVE, the first matches begin at 7:30 a.m. and the last matches begin at 1:15 p.m. On both Saturday and Sunday the AM WAVE includes: - 16U Women (Division 2) - 16U Women (Division 3 and 4) In the PM WAVE, the first matches start at 2:30 p.m. and the last matches start at 8:15 p.m. On both Saturday and Sunday, the PM WAVE includes: - 16U Women (Division 1) - 16U Men (Division 1) - 16U Men (Division 2) On Monday May 20th, the playoffs take place. All teams should be prepared to play at 7:30 a.m. and throughout the day. The final match on Monday will be scheduled no later than 3:45pm. We do our best to run on schedule, however unforseen events may cause the tournament to run later than expected.
Team Check-in
Check-in will take place at TBC. Failure to check-in during designated times will result in a penalty of $100 that must to be paid in cash or by cheque on site by the team before they can receive their accreditations. Only designated team staff can check-in the team. However we strongly recommend that the Head Coach checks-in the team. Information required for check-in: - Verification of the team roster - Proof of age must be presented for each player. Government issued IDs such as (but not limited to): an original or photocopy of birth certificate or driver’s license are accepted documents. - Coach’s NCCP card
Coaching Certification
Head coaches participating at Volleyball Canada National Championships must be NCCP Level 1 Certified (Theory, Technical & Practical). Coaches must present proof of their certification to the referee before the start of every match during the National Championships. Teams who fail to provide proof of certification are subject to a $25 fine. A $100 fine will be deducted from teams’ performance bonds when coaches do not meet certification requirements.
Coaches' Meeting
There will NOT be a coaches meeting prior to this year's Canadian West Open. In lieu of the coaches' meeting, the HEAD COACH must complete the Team Check-In. It is MANDATORY that the Head Coach completes the team check-in on Friday, May 17 at the Olympic Oval between 10:00 am and 9:00 pm. At check-in, coaches will be asked to verify their team roster with proof-of-age documentation, pick up player/coaches packages, and will be given all relevant event information. Teams will not be permitted to begin play without having completed the team check-in.
Scorekeepers and Linesperson
Teams will be required to provide one linesperson and one scorekeeper for each of their matches. Alberta Volleyball will be in contact with all teams once they have registered to ensure that they register a scorekeeper prior to the event. All scorekeepers are required to go through a training session on Friday May 17 in the Olympic Oval.
Event Passes
Event Passes ($30) and Single-day Passes ($12) will be available for purchase on-site at the venue throughout the tournament. All children 13 and under will be admitted free. All purchases are final and non-refundable. 2013 National Championships participants and team staff (as entered through the NRS and on the official roster) will have their Event Passes included in their entry fee. These passes will be distributed through the team packages provided at Team Check-In. In addition, one Event Pass for each team's scorekeeper will be provided. Practice Sessions
One-hour practice time-slots may be booked at the Olympic Oval on Friday May 17, 2013 between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Practice times will be given on a first-come first serve basis and will only be available to teams who book IN ADVANCE. All practice time requests must be made before midnight on Monday April 29, 2013. Please send your request to [email protected]. Please remember to include your gender, and team name in your request.
Team Eligibility
All teams must meet the following minimum criteria to attend a National Championship: - Be full members and in good standing within their own P/TA and with Volleyball Canada (or their own national federation). - Participate in the Provincial/Territorial Championship of their respective Provincial/Territorial Association. The team roster submitted for National Championships MUST be the same as the one submitted for a P/T championship. - Meet all additional registration requirements of their P/TA and Volleyball Canada.
Roster
A team of any age category consists of a minimum of 8 and a maximum of 15 players. All 15 players may be in uniform, may participate in the warm-up and may sit on the bench. Only 12 players may be entered on the scoresheet and participate in the match. These 12 players may change from match to match. A total of 4 team personnel may be registered for any given team. Team personnel MUST include a head coach, an assistant coach, and team contact. The 4th team personnel may be another assistant coach, trainer, medical staff or manager. All 4 team staff may sit on the bench during a match.
Technical Matters
The Official Volleyball Canada 2012-2013 Indoor Rule Book shall govern play at the National Championships. Please review the 2012-2013 Indoor Competition for details concerning eligibility, divisions, seeding, scouting, etc. All coaches and team contacts should be aware of its content. It is available to be downloaded under Registration Information.
Accommodations
The following hotels have provided Volleyball Canada and the Alberta Volleyball Association with room blocks, assistance for the event and competitive rates for the 2013 16U Canadian West Open. We would ask that you support these properties with your team bookings for the event as they are our Host Hotel Properties. The Host Hotel List is available to be downloaded under Registration Information.
Withdrawal
Refunds will be given (less a $100 administration fee) on withdrawals made up to the entry deadline of the event (April 5, 2013). After this time, no refunds will be given.
Registration
**REMINDER** - There are still vacancies in the 16U Girls event, so registration for teams playing up opens March 12th, 2013 at 12pm ET. Example: A team that is registered to play in the 15U category at provincial championships is allowed to register for both the 15U & 16U National Championships. They will be able to register in the 15U West Open starting January 24th, 2013. They will have to wait until March 12th, 2013 to register for the 16U Nationals. Registration will open on Thursday, January 24, 2013 (12:00:00pm ET). Please visit the following link to register your team: https://nrs.volleyball.ca/Account/Login. Deadline: Friday, April 5, 2013 (11:59:59pm ET). Please note that in previous years, this tournament has been full prior to March 1. Entry Fee: $950 Please note that registrations are done on a first come, first serve basis. Please enter your team on the waiting list even if the category is full.
