Information

For the first time in the history of our institution, St. Thomas University has committed to hosting a national championship. In March of 2005, the Canadian Colleges Athletic Association (CCAA) Men’s National Volleyball Championships will be staged in Fredericton, NB on the campuses of both STU and UNB. Eight men’s volleyball teams from across Canada will take part in the 4-day event, with the UNB Main Gym serving as the tournament site and Fredericton Inn as the host hotel. Festivities begin with an All-Canadian Awards Banquet on Wednesday, March 9th with game action running Thursday, March 10th through Saturday, March 12th.

Accreditation
Accreditation fees will be $40/participant. Fees must be paid by cheque made payable to STU Volleyball Championships at the time of your scheduled accreditation. This accreditation includes a ticket to the All-Canadian Banquet, admission to all games and matches, as well as access to appropriate tournament amenities. Participating teams will receive a maximum of 20 personnel accreditations.

Upon arrival at the hotel, team designates will be able to proceed with pick-up and paymen. Airport shuttle information to be provided upon confirmation of flights.
Accommodations
The Fredericton Inn will be the host hotel for this National Championship. Each room, equipped with 2 double beds, will be offered at a rate of $89.00 + hst/night. Participating Team Decorum
Each team must have two (2) sets of uniforms, one “light” and one “dark”. The designation of which will be worn for each match will be made at the coaches meeting. Failure to do so will result in a $100 fine. Participating teams at the tournament shall wear warm-ups/track suits which are consistent in colour and form.
Code of Ethics
It is the responsibility of each Head Coach participating in the tournament to familiarize themselves with the repercussions involved with a Violation of the Code of Ethics. For more information, please refer to your CCAA Operating Code Article 1, Section 3 Code of Ethics (page 18).

A schedule of team practice times will be provided once participating teams have been finalized.
Banquet and Closing Ceremonies
Members of all participating teams at CCAA National Championships must be in attendance at opening and closing ceremonies. Teams in violation will be subject to a $200 fine. Extenuating circumstances may be appealed to the Executive Committee. The opening ceremonies (All-Canadian Banquet) will take place on Wednesday, March 9th starting at 6:30pm at the host hotel, Fredericton Inn. Business casual attire is recommended for the All-Canadian Banquet. It is also recommended that all student athletes receiving medals and/or awards at the closing ceremonies be dressed neatly and similarly in their appropriate college apparel.
Technical Information
- Coaches meeting The Coaches Meeting will be held at 9:00 am Thursday morning at the Fredericton Inn. Details will follow on meeting location. Leigh Goldie, Men’s National Volleyball Convenor will Chair this meeting. An agenda will be provided by National office in advance of this meeting. - Playing Regulations It is also the responsibility of each Head Coach participating in the tournament to familiarize themselves with Playing Regulations. Please refer to your CCAA Operating Code Article 1, Section 8 Playing Regulations for Volleyball (page 40-42). - Home and Away Schedule (Uniform Colours) Home and away schedule uniform colours will be assigned at the Coaches meeting. - Team Attire Participating teams are required to have two (2) sets of uniforms (one light, one dark). - Video Services TBD - Laundry Services Laundry services will be available to participating teams staying at the host hotel, Fredericton Inn. Laundry may be dropped off in bags at the front desk of the hotel after 5pm and will be returned to teams upon completion. - Media Services TBD ( i.e. Web Site, press conferences) - Medical Services Teams are required to bring their own therapy supplies (tape, etc.). Team therapists will NOT be provided. However, arrangements can be made in advance for necessary treatment and services. The Physioclinic will make services available to athlete participants FREE OF CHARGE. Clinic hours will be made available during the mornings of the tournament. Guidelines for booking appointments will be provided upon arrival. - Change Room and Team Room Information Four team locker rooms will be available throughout the tournament. Therefore, teams will be asked to use these rooms on a rotational basis. Teams may use these rooms one (1) hour prior to their game and one-half (½) hour following the game. Team hosts will inform you of room assignment upon your daily arrival at the tournament site. - Doping Control Further information to be provided by CCAA and CCES. - Pre-Game Protocol A bilingual National Anthem will be played or sung before the beginning of each match. The announcement of team line-up and the exchange of institutional mementos will also occur prior to game commencement. - Post-Game Protocol At game completion, players will approach the net to shake hands. At this time, we would ask all members of the participating teams to line-up on their respective benches for the announcement and presentation of Players of the Game. We will ask that media interviews at this time be conducted outside the court area. - Grievance and Protest Committee Procedures Committee Members: Leigh Goldie, John Richard, Pat Thorne & Randy Wilson Please refer to Article 2, Section 5 Item 13 .5 Grievance and Protest Committee in the CCAA Operating Code (page 82). - All-Star Committee Committee Members: Leigh Goldie & Dan McMorran These individuals will be responsible for selecting a player of game from each team for each match, tournament all-stars and the Play Award. Players of the game sheets for coaches ??? - Warm-Up Music and Announcers The Host Committee will ensure that the warm-up music used before each match is conducive to the fan base (family friendly). Announcers will also ensure a fair and equitable environment is presented for both teams. - Security The Host Committee will provide the appropriate security throughout the tournament to ensure the safety of players, spectators and officials.
Tournament evaluation
Evaluation Forms will be provided with your tournament package upon arrival. Completed forms can be sent to the Men’s National Volleyball Convenor, Leigh Goldie, NO LATER than March 28, 2005. Failure to do so will result in the college being assessed a $50 fine.
